MT: Volunteer at Non-Profit Cancer Retreat
- Goat Peak Ranch, Inc., Ronan, Montana
(Work for RV Volunteers at Retreat for Cancer Patients)
MT: Goat Peak Ranch, Inc., Ronan, Montana. We invite you to spend the spring/summer/early fall in the beautiful Mission Valley of Montana at Goat Peak Ranch. We are 15 miles from Flathead Lake. Head on up to Glacier National Park, less than two hours away, for hiking, fishing, and exploring. The Bob Marshall Wilderness is just over the pass, an hour and half drive. World-class flyfishing is a short drive. We're about an hour from Missoula and an hour and 15 minutes from Kalispell. The spectacular Mission Mountains are right out our back door.
We have 10 beautiful acres and an old log house in the Mission Valley, just east of Pablo, MT. We purchased the property with the intent of starting a non-profit retreat center for men with cancer and their families. Goat Peak Ranch, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, offers folks a place to get away from the everyday grind of being a cancer patient. We want them to experience the healing environment, quiet setting and majestic views of our little slice of paradise. We have three retreats planned for this summer and will add more if needed.
We are looking for a couple to help us fulfill our dream of developing and running the retreat center. This is will be our third summer here. We’ve accomplished a lot but there’s much more to do! The work will vary but you'll need good handyman skills (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heavy equipment experience is a plus). You must be physically able to do heavy lifting, enjoy outdoor work and not shy away from manual labor. Projects for this year include spring clean-up, landscaping, mowing, tending to the garden, building platforms and frame for wall tent, painting the barn, trenching, tree trimming, and various chores around the
ranch. Additional chores include cleaning and doing laundry for our guest cabin/glamping tents. If you love to cook, we will likely need some help preparing meals for our retreat clients. We'll also be doing some work on the main house to make it more appealing to our guests.
We consider our working camper volunteers a part of the Goat Peak Ranch family. We love to socialize. Many of our AirBnb guests join us for sunset by the pond with a glass of and we often have group cookouts. It’s a fun, friendly atmosphere but there’s also plenty of time and space for solitude and relaxing.
We have two friendly (and funny!) Nigerian Dwarf goats, two dogs and horses so any pets you have must be compatible. Schedule is flexible; 24 hours maximum/week in exchange for a FHU RV site - shady with a lovely view of Goat Peak & the Mission Mountains. We need someone, preferably a couple, mid-April/early May and end in mid-October. We’re willing to work with shorter commitments and use multiple volunteers throughout the summer. We ask you be able to commit to a minimum of six weeks.
