Ukiah, CA Caretakers Needed

(Ukiah, California)

Seeking a couple, or possibly a single, to care-take our recently acquired property about 20 minutes south of Ukiah, CA. The position is starting around the last week of October; we want to have someone in place by November 1st. The property is 40 acres, a newer house and barn, overlooking a bio-dynamic vineyard. Very private but easily accessible. We live 2 hours away and intend to move up to Ukiah in January, but may be delayed until no later than June.

We are looking for someone who could do grounds & pool maintenance and upkeep (5 hours per week), housekeeping (2-3 hours per week) and some occasional handy work as well as tending and feeding of four goats, six sheep, chickens and two livestock guardian dogs (4 hours per week).

As this is a newly acquired property, there is some immediate work needed such as tank/pump hook-ups to tapped spring, fencing, construction of feeding sheds, etc. Therefore, we require someone handy with (own) tools and basic repairs and someone with an ability to understand what it takes to respond to needs as they arise on a rural property with modern infrastructure. The work will be flexible, averaging about 20 hours per week, with some projects taking more time and some weeks' workload to be lighter, leaving plenty of time for off-site work or personal pursuits. This is a non salary position, so you should have an outside source of income. Benefits do include fresh eggs, and food from the (future) garden.

We are really seeking self starters, someone who can reason and think for themselves and care for our property as if it were your own. Honesty and reliability are a must. No smokers please or folks with dependencies. Children are welcome, but pets must be discussed individually as there may be some issues with the livestock or livestock guardian dogs.

Ideally, you would have your own motorhome, but there is an older, refurbished 30' motorhome available for housing. We have a private flat site available with water and electrical hook-ups and hook-up to satellite TV and computer available. We are able to pay electrical unless your usage is excessive, then with a monthly cap.

We would be thrilled if you are someone who has an abiding interest in alternative energy, conservation, organic gardening, sustainable farming/living, music and/or the arts. We would like a commitment of 6-8 months, after a 2 and 4 week review period to be sure everyone is satisfied with the situation. Please email: patriceep@yahoo.com with resume and photos if this position sounds like something you are interested in. Thanks for your time.
