Deadman Lake, Alaska
Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge in Tok, Alaska, has unique opportunities for RV workcampers. We are one of only two road-accessible wildlife refuges in Alaska. If you're interested in experiencing the wildlife, habitats, and Native culture of Interior Alaska, we have volunteer jobs that offer a chance for you to make a difference.
We offer our volunteers opportunities to take advantage of our Refuge while volunteering on site. Volunteers can work at Deadman Lake Campground (Mile 1249 of the Alcan Highway) or at our Visitor Center (approximately 8 miles from the US/ Canada border). Tok is approximately 90 miles from the Visitor Center.
We look for friendly, energetic workcamping couples. We need RVing volunteers to help fill six-week positions either June 7 to July 16 or July 14 to August 27, 2010. These opportunities are for couples traveling with their RV and trained in visitor services and maintenance.
Each location has an RV site (30 - 35') with varying accommodations for water, power, and sewer. Volunteers work for four days a week, eight hours a day, and are given a meals/ incidentals reimbursement of $31.50/ person/ work day while on site.
Applicants should have prior experience in communicating with the public, possess basic maintenance skills, be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs., possess current CPR and first aid certifications, and have valid driver's licenses. If traveling from the USA, volunteers will need valid passports. If traveling from outside the USA, volunteers will need visas.
If you are interested in our volunteer positions, you may contact our Interpretive Park Ranger, Kay Lynn Odle-Moore by phone (907) 883-9404, or by e-mail at kay_odle-moore@fws.gov. Positions are often filled by late November, so interested volunteers should apply early.
