AK: Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge: Volunteers Receive Meal & Travel Allowance
At Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge, you can make a difference by work camping in the volunteer program. Experience the wildlife, habitats, and Native culture of Interior Alaska.

Deadman Lake, Alaska
Deadman Lake Campground RV Host - Mile 1249 Alaska Highway - is one of two campgrounds on our Refuge. Campground volunteers conduct visitor contacts, help with campground maintenance at both campgrounds, help to maintain interpretive pull-outs along the Alaska Highway, and give evening interpretive programs. Tetlin Visitor Center – Milepost 1229 (8 miles from US/ Canada border, 90 miles from Tok) is a beautiful log cabin center which offers a spectacular view of the Refuge from its large viewing deck. Inside are new exhibits along with Native arts demonstrations. Seaton Recreation Area - Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge in AK, has developed a new recreation area that includes primitive tent camping sites and multiple trails with observation decks. At the site of a former Seaton Roadhouse about five miles from the Tetlin Refuge visitor center, age old ridges of windblown glacial silt surround a small pond. Streams meander through the area providing habitat for beaver, songbirds, small mammals, moose, wolf, and bear. The Refuge has designed a series of trails (complete with observation decks and benches) for people to explore this forested wetland. Visitor Center volunteers help to extend evening hours, provide light maintenance, and lead short trail hikes. Volunteers will also make evening visits to Seaton Recreation Area (approximately 5 miles from the Visitor Center). We’re looking for friendly, energetic couples to help fill 8-week positions for the summer of 2012. These opportunities are for couples traveling with their RV trained in visitor services and maintenance. Each location has an RV site with varying accommodations for water, power, and sewer.
