Academic specialty: human ecology. For 30 years taught courses ranging from graduate seminars of five students to undergraduate lecture courses in 425 seat high rise auditoriums. Accomplished lecturer and discussion leader. Honored repeatedly for classroom excellence by student body as University Professor among 850 faculty. Successful researcher and grant writer. Published. Regional History/Architecture preservation officer. Continuing and insatiable curiosity; an intellectual free-wheeler. Conservationist.
1. Avocational owner/operator and lone hand on 175 acre ranch for 25 years while university faculty. Produced, showed and sold purebred registered beef breeding stock over much of the eastern USA. 2. Livestock and truck farm owner/operator for 10 years on 80 acre diversified farm in Tennessee. Many years of experience with pleasure horses, with hand tools, chain saws, trimmers, stump grinders, wood chippers, zero-turn mowers and farm tractors to 80 HP with endloader and PTO driven attachments. Thousands of miles pulling various tag or gooseneck trailers and my gooseneck fifth wheel RV.
Summer work camping experiences: 2009 at a 520 acre Ozark Mountain corporate employee retreat doing outside work (boat house, boats, lake beach, mowing, pressure washing, clubhouse, pavilion, recreational game courts maintenance). Summer 2010 wrangled a string of 14 trail horses for owners and guests on500 acre private resort in north Georgia mountains. Built and repaired fences. Pasture maintenance,mowing, trimming, hay harvesting. Pressure washed pool decks, pavilions. Fall, 2010 with tractor and endloader built a 500 feet by three feet high levy for flood water protection at an RV park near Nashville.
Fully retired and relocated to Florida in 2002 where in 2011-13 I designed and supervised construction of a 'net zero' energy house and barn on 17.5 acres for me and my three gaited pleasure horses. Natural horsemanship. Except
for communications there are no utility bills on this horse farm. Personally built over a mile of four rail white vinyl fences in this gated equestrian community. I do all my maintenance and most repair work. DIY'er with broad ranging mechanical, operational, organizational, and communication competencies. Thoughtful and meticulous information junkie.
Herbalist in excellent health. Never used tobacco. No prescription or recreational drugs or alcohol except for an occasional beer or wine with dinner. Health conscious naturalist and laid back country boy at heart.
Seek part time summer placement (June-September MOL) in a temperate climate (preferably east of the Mississippi) on a ranch or farm, at a stable, a quiet 55+ resort (no bathhouse duties), a preserve, an historic site, a state or national park, as an informational docent or educational tour guide, or in some other mostly outdoor capacity other than transient RV parks in exchange for a full service site for my 2015 36 foot, 50 amp, 3 slide fifth wheel Blue Ridge RV and my modified Cummins diesel powered 2006 Dodge Ram 2500HD pickup/tow vehicle. Also open to permanent relocation in a moderate climate. In being a patron of the arts (e.g. I volunteer with the Ocala Florida Symphony), proximity to museums, festivals, concerts, galleries, historic sites, exhibits, Nature, etc. would be a bonus.
