Lake Mendocino

Lake Mendocino, US Army Corps of Engineers, Ukiah, California, is seeking a Camp Host Volunteer for the winter. We seek experienced cheerful and outgoing camp hosts to volunteer at Lake Mendocino this winter.





Candidates are primarily responsible for the management of a small campground, approximately 30 campsites, including fee collection and remittance using the Online Recreation Management Software (ORMS) through the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS).

Prior experience EXTREMELY desirable. Other responsibilities include answering visitor questions, opening and closing gates, routine patrols of the campground, litter control, and communication with ranger staff.

Lake Mendocino is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Candidates must be bondable and must own or have available to them a recreational vehicle for occupancy during the winter. Power, water, and sewer are provided at no cost.



Requirements / Responsibilities



• Must be bondable (good credit, assets, etc.). The Corps will pay for the bond.

• Open gates in the morning and close gates at night.

• Patrol for vandalism, maintenance issues, and fee compliance. Allowed to inform campers of the rules, but no authority to enforce the rules. Report compliance issues to a ranger. Should not be out specifically patrolling for rule breakers.

• Should conduct all patrols BEFORE dark.

• Relay camper complaints to ranger staff.

• Pick up light trash. Report major trash.

• Answer visitor questions regarding recreation opportunities at Lake Mendocino.

• Collect fees from iron rangers. Ability to lift 50(?) pounds.

• Count money, keep accurate records, and maintain security of funds during operations.

• Remit fees using ORMS (Online Recreation Management Software) through the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS). Prior experience EXTREMELY desirable.

• There are no reservations during the winter.

• Must be mobile. May have to move from Chekaka to Kyen to Bushay and then back to Kyen.

• Must have their own RV for living accommodations during their tenure. 30 amp power, water, and sewer provided.

• Approximately 01 October 2010 to 01 May 2011.
