Cane9Creek RV Park & Campground

by Richard & Sonya Urquhart
(Heflin, Al)

Cane9Creek RV Park & Campground is a dog friendly campground in Helin, Alabama. The overall goal/mission is for the park to become a truly pet friendly campground, where well socialized dogs can have unlimited access to the grounds, woods, and fields.

We are a small park, midway between Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA. Cane9Creek RV Park & Campground has 41 RV sites (more or less), sitting on approximately six acres.

Nine plus acres of undeveloped fields and woods sit to the rear of the main campground. The entire east and south are bordered by 3/4 of the Cane Creek.

There are tent sites available in the main campground near the creek. We have plans to develop limited primitive tent camping on the creek in the rear.

We purchased the campground in August of 2008. Sonya is a retired school teacher and Richard is a semiretired California lawyer. The campground is a retirement project and a work in progress.

We want it to pay for itself but because it was a totally new park (with lots of work to be done and still needed), it will take a couple of years.

We are looking for worker(s) who love the South (as do we), who want to be part of building a dream, and who are willing to give 3-4 hours five days a week in exchange for FHU and wifi access. The work is mainly maintenance and landscaping, i.e. mowing, weed eating, and cutting new trails, with some checking in of guests. We will explore all possibilities depending on your skills.

Commitment is important to us and additional income, in the future, is possible.

Oh, you must also love animals.

You can visit the site, read more about our plans and see a few pictures at Cane9creekrvpark.com.

Give us a call if the campground interests you.

Sounds Great!
by: Pat

I own my RV. Your ideas are wonderful. I have trained dogs for handicapped and obedience. Would love to see your place.

Yes, Does Sound Great, Especially to Dog Lovers
by: Jeannie

Sure wish you currently offered pay, as my husband and I would be the perfect couple to work there. Rick is a long-term carpenter/handyman and I have my skills too. Maybe in a year or two?

Good luck and great that you love dogs. We do too!

Wow! We're RVing with Dogs
by: dragonfly

My husband and I just made our first trip in our 24 ft. motorhome with our two dogs, Jake, a Jack Russel/Dashhound, and Sophie a somewhat very small, deaf American Bulldog. They had never been anywhere, except the vet, not ever really socialized, and we had lots of fears about how this was going to work out. They were great.

They love the RV and meeting new people. Meeting new dogs, well we need to work on that.

Finding the right place to stop was not easy. Most let you have dogs on a leash, but otherwise no amenities for dogs. We just wanted a fenced area where they could run and play and we did not have to worry about them. We only found one place that had individual fenced areas for your dog right next to your RV.

What I want is to have RV sites that are fenced so you can just open your door and out they go! Maybe you could have a few of those at your place for those of us whose dogs aren't socialized, yet.

My husband and I will be ready to try work camping sometime in the next year and we will try and stop by. Good Luck on your venture.

We Bring Our Own Dog Fence
by: Pug Lovers

We have four fences that hook together and we just open the door and out they go. The cost is around $200 plus shipping from a site called something like pet travels. Each fence is around 8 feet long and costs around $50. If you go to the site online, shipping is only about $14. Our pugs love it because they are always with us - we do still take them out to do their business. We have a fifth wheel and my husband bought a gate to put behind the steps. He had to make some adjustments but if you are handy, it's not a big deal.

At the same time, I love the thought of a campground that likes pets!
