Camp Hosting At San Diego Schools

San Diego County Office of Education Outdoor Schools Camp Hosts

The San Diego County Office of Education's Outdoor Education Program is seeking Camp Hosts for their three Outdoor Schools located in the Fox, Cuyamaca, and Palomar Mountain areas, in East San Diego County. This volunteer assignment will be Monday thru Sunday, 20 hours/week.

Definition: Under general supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, custodial, grounds-keeping, and security tasks; keeps assigned site, buildings, plant and equipment maintained, clean and orderly; acts as site security and hosts weekend and summer clients.

Typical Tasks: May perform any combination of the following: sweeps, scrubs, shampoos, and vacuums carpets and floors; dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; strips and waxes floors; empties and cleans waste receptacles; washes windows and walls; polishes metal work; maintains equipment and material used in work; cleans restrooms, toilets, washbowls, urinals, and sinks; cleans up bodily fluids; cleans drains and removes obstructions in water and sewer systems; waters, mows and weeds designated areas; cleans, vacuums and sweeps swimming pool; checks water and chemical level of pools and adjusts accordingly; keeps records of work performed and chemicals used; guards an assigned area against trespass, fire or malfunction of mechanical equipment; makes minor repairs and reports needed repairs; assists in moving and arranging furniture; receives materials from vendors; checks circuits; fuels camp vehicles and emergency generator; performs safety site inspections; acts as part of emergency response team in case of emergency situations; acts as host to visiting weekend and summer groups by reviewing safety/emergency procedures, cleanup procedures and contract provisions with group representative(s); assists visitors in locating rooms, trails and supplies; alters or repairs wood articles and structures such as partitions, doors, or furniture; cuts and installs window glass; prepares surfaces for painting, and uses brushes, rollers and spray gun in applying paint; makes minor repairs to gas, sewage, water, and electrical systems; replaces and repairs pipes, valves and ball-cocks; packs faucets; performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Working knowledge of: cleaning procedures and techniques, and safety requirements related to custodial work; general facilities maintenance and repair techniques; light industrial general safety procedures; skill in the safe use of power and hand tools; physical ability to lift and carry equipment and materials used in the course of work; ability to climb ladders, bend, squat, kneel, stretch, twist, and work in confined and/or high areas; communicate and follow oral and written instructions; complete assigned tasks in a safe and timely manner with a minimum of supervision; maintain effective working relationships with adults and children; keep and accurately maintain written records; availability to work variable hours and weekends.

Experience and Education: A combination of education, training and experience which clearly demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities detailed above. A typical qualifying background would include at least one (1) year of custodial AND light maintenance experience OR completion of formal training in these skills.

Licenses: A valid Class C California driver’s license is required for this position.

Prior approval must be provided regarding acceptable RV models. Please attach picture of RV to application.

Pets are allowed and must be approved prior to hire.
