Snake River Boat Club Offers Caretakers Fishing, Peace and Quiet, and Pay

from Linda Whitehead

Snake River Boat Club could be right for you if you love to fish, love the outdoors, love nature, and love peace and quiet. It all started in 1938, a society for boat racing and water recreation.

[All positions at the boat camp are currently filled. Thank you.]

We are a rustic boat club with a lodge, located in the southeastern Idaho mountains. We are near Palisades, ID.

Compensation includes pay, RV site, reimbursement for propane, and an end of season bonus. You get many weekends off to explore Jackson Hole, Grand Teton National Park, and Yellowstone Park, all of which are approximately one to one and a half hours drive from the boating club.

The season runs from May 31 through October 16.

Here's a partial list of duties...

... mow the lawn weekly (approximately two acres with riding and power lawn mower.
... water the lawn.
... check docks, boats, and RVs – move dock as necessary using a hand-powered winch as water levels rise/fall.
... vacuum small lodge.
... clean two small one-room restrooms each week.
... pickup driftwood.
... prepare sugar water to feed hummingbirds.

Caretakers must remain on the property at all times (24x7), unless boat-club members are present. This arrangement usually allows caretakers to take many weekends off from the boat camp. A Sunday return time would be 3 p.m.

The season salary is $4,050. That breaks down to $900 per month for June, July, August, September, and $450 for October. Half of that amount is paid each month, with the remainder paid as a bonus when the club closes on October 16.

The only RV hookup provided is water. A no-fee dump station is approximately five miles from the club’s remote location. Caretakers will be reimbursed for propane. A small cabin is on the property with a washing machine, refrigerator, stove, etc. This cabin is available for caretaker use, but it is very rustic.

Caretakers are required to have a personal cell phone. As many wild animals frequent the area, it would be beneficial for caretakers to have a personal firearm.

This club, Snake River Boat Club, will require references and information from caretakers on IRS form W-9 to file a 1099-Misc with the IRS.

If you love to fish, love the outdoors, love nature, and love peace and quiet, this is the place for you. On most weekdays, caretakers will be alone on the Snake River Boat Club premises.

If being alone in the mountains is not your thing, and if you cannot live without television and do not have a satellite dish, then this is not the place for you.
