Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Want to do a special project or particular tasks at your job? Ask. Some positions require that you do certain things. There are specific tasks that need to be done and there's not much leeway. But with many jobs, especially volunteer positions, if you let your supervisor know what you'd like to do, you might just get the green light to spearhead your pet project.

The South Dakota Black Hills is one of our favorite places to spend the fall. This weekend…oh, boy…I'm glad we weren't there for the blizzard. A friend reports they have 55 inches of snow on the ground, with nine-foot high drifts. I think that is at his work location in Lead, SD.

Where we are in Alaska, we've so far just had frost.

Bob and I celebrated our wedding anniversary this past week. We've been married for 32 years. We've spent have of them full-time RVing, and another few with extended-time RVing. Some question the closeness of living and working together in a small space. We cherish that closeness. To those of you who sent us congratulatory notes and best wishes -- we sincerely thank you.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Wisdom from Workers

Mary Keyser is currently camp hosting with the Oklahoma State Parks. She's experiencing firsthand some of the effects of the government "shutdown." This is what she wrote: "With the government shut down lots of people have been put out of positions, at least temporarily. But, they need to check in area campgrounds -- especially private ones -- as they are probably really overwhelmed. I know that with the COE campgrounds closed in this area, and the Forestry Service ones closed as well, we are really busy! It might make it a bit easier for both the campground and the workers to set up an open-end contract, so that as business decreases when the federal parks reopen they can resume their positions there, and the private campgrounds won't feel obligated either when business slows again."

My Dream Job Is …Travailing Artist for Camps and Resorts

~ from Phil DePeal

I am already an artist and a camp host. I would love to combine the two and make art for camps and resorts -- murals, sculptures, maybe an art garden. I can do decorative gates, trellises, etc.

Working Fall Craft Shows and Holiday Bazaars

It's that time of year when schools, churches, and community organizations are holding their fall craft shows and holiday bazaars. They are good ways for RVers to bring in some cash. Whether you are a serious artist, have a casual crafting hobby, or sell a commercial line of products, these shows can be a good way to earn some extra money between now and the end of the year.

We have articles about vending at craft shows, festivals, flea markets, and other events on the website..
