Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Since they say Christmas is for children, this issue has several articles about working families who travel with children.

Being apart from the kids, especially the grandkids, can be difficult during the holidays. In our "RV Life and Travel E-zine," we had a guest article by full-time RVer Bob Hazlett, who shared how he came to terms with this. Folks found it heartwarming, so I'm sharing it with you here, too. If you are feeling a bit sad for being away from your kids and grandkids this Christmas, you may find his perspective gives you a needed lift. Read his story, Holidays Far From Home.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity -- and the very best of holidays,

Merry Christmas! Coleen

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Work Camping with Kids in Tow

~~ Sara writes: Are there work camp positions that allow children? I have two children -- a 3 year old and 5 year old. I will be full timing with them and will need to work -- something where they can be with me while I work. Anyone done this or know if it is possible? Thanks!

~~ I answered in part: Yes, it is possible to work camp or otherwise work while RVing with your children.

Here are some options that come to mind for working with young children in tow:

1. Look for a job at a children's camp. Enroll your children in the program so that they are cared for and entertained while you are at work.

~~ See the rest of my suggestions, along with the experience shared by an RVer who has worked with her three children with her -- and add your comments -- on our website.

Working RVer Tip

Ask yourself how what you are doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow. If it isn't -- then perhaps it would be a good idea to change what you are doing.

Working RVer Tip

When you go to apply for a job, take along a resume or a job application that you have already filled out. Even if you are required to use the application provided by the company where you are applying, you will have much of the information organized and at hand.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Campground Job with Kids

~~ Jay writes: I have a question or need advice on volunteering at a campground for a free site for duration of three to 12 months. I'm having a problem with places telling me that they don’t want families, that they only want single or retired couples. Could you give me some information that may help us find a volunteer position in exchange for a site?

~~ I answered in part: The first thing that comes to mind: How do they know you have kids? That information should not be on your resume or job application.

~~ Read the longer version of my answer -- and add your comments -- on our website.
