Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

We spent several days this past week in Homer, Alaska. Homer is an artsy fishing village at the end of the road. In the summer, it bristles with tourists and seasonal workers.

Many of the seasonal employees are either college kids or semi-retired seniors. Jobs are plentiful in the fishing industry. Restaurants, gift shops, campgrounds, and it seems, most every other business in town, hire summer workers.

Many seasonal businesses are owned and operated by RVers. Campgrounds. Food stands. Fishing charters. Retail shops. It makes perfect sense. Own a business in a northern state, live in your RV on your property during the summer, and head somewhere warm in the winter.

We had a good time there. As always, the views were gorgeous. We had an excellent Thai dinner. It was a good break away from our home base.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Working RVer Tip

Visiting with the owner of a local restaurant the other day, he was telling us about hiring waitresses. He said he had decided not to hire any servers who didn't have experience. But, there was the new waitress, new to the job -- new to waitressing. What made him decide to hire her? He couldn't intimidate her. The owner and his brother (a shift manager at the cafe) are both large men, probably in the 300-400 pound range. He said the two of them sat down and interviewed her together. They gave her the ins and outs of the job and pushed questions at her. She had what he called a "bring it on" attitude. Her spunk outweighed her lack of experience.

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
