Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Bob and I are currently working in Alaska. I think we will stay here much of the winter. However, today's record-breaking-for-this-day low temperature of 18 degrees below zero (Fahrenheit) may be cause to reconsider the plan. (Previously recorded November 19 low temp for Soldotna was a minus 10 in 1950.)

The right time to apply for a job depends on who you ask. Even when you ask employers in the same industry, you get a wide range of answers. I heard from a Christmas tree grower who told me November is not the time to be looking for work on tree farms or on retail tree sales lots. She explained that they interview and hire workers earlier in the year, because they are now too busy with other facets of the business. Conversely, others in the business hire workers now through the height of the selling season. One grower with multiple retail lots advertises on its website that it needs workers for after school hours and weekends -- and instructs those looking for work to stop by the retail lots the last week of November.

For more about selling Christmas trees and working on tree farms, we have an article on the website for you: Christmas Tree Sales and Other Holiday Tree Industry Jobs

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Working RVer Tip

Following up after you've inquired about a job, sent a resume, or interviewed is good. However, repeatedly emailing or calling within 48 hours is not following up; it is pestering.

Workers On Wheels Tip for Employers and Employees

Proofread your ads to see that they do not contain contradictory information. For example, if you specify a number of work hours, make sure that it doesn't say "20 hours" in the headline and "16 hours" in the body of the ad.

Writing for Profit

Many RVers want to write -- and get paid for it. Some RV clubs have writer's groups that meet to offer encouragement to their members. We have a section on our website for would-be writers. The articles cover writing romance novels to writing about ghost towns, from blogging to providing a resume writing service.

Working RVer Tip

If your last job was not the best work experience, consider it training time for future jobs. It may show you what questions are important for YOU to ask before accepting your next position. Those questions vary from workcamper to workcamper, but here are some that our readers find important: Where is the campground/housing/RV site area? What are work hours? How much work is expected for what hourly rate? What do the on-site meals consist of?

Employer Profile Pages: Help Wanted Ads on Steroids for Working RVers

Our employer profile pages are more than your basic, short help wanted ads. They give you information about the business and community, as well as the job and the work duties.

The additional info in these profiles is to help you get a better idea of whether or not the position and the business ambiance is a good match for you, and whether or not you might enjoy your time RVing and working in the particular job location.

Welcome!

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
