Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Yes, we are still posting information about available jobs.

In case you missed the announcement in last week's newsletter, we are making major updates, simplifications, and changes to the website. We're changing from short ads to longer, more detailed submissions from employers.

We're calling them "employer profiles" because they are so much more helpful than the typical 40 word classified. Each employer will have his own page of information! The purpose of these enhanced job listings is twofold. For the RVing worker, it should give you a better feel for the job, the business, and the community where the job is located, to help you decide if you and the position are a good fit. For the employer, it should give you happier workers who are more suited to the situation you offer.

We've heard from several of you requesting that we list the state where the job is located at the beginning of the profile. Profiles that were on the website prior to the site revision did not have the state listed in them. However, the new ones that have been going up, those that are replacing the Help Wanted classifieds do have the state on them. The state abbreviation is at the start of the profile, just as we had been doing with the classifieds.

In between issues of the newsletter, I'm posting announcements and updates on our blog. Here is the direct link to it:

If the links in the newsletter don't open correctly for you, try copying the entire link and pasting it into your browser. Be sure to copy all of the link, including the part that carries over onto the second line.

We're having a beautiful summer here in Alaska. Today was absolutely gorgeous.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Working RVer Tip

When a help wanted ad indicates that a particular credential is preferred, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is, or will be, required. For example, an ad for someone to haul sugar beets may specify that they prefer someone with a commercial drivers license (CDL). That particular job may fall under an agricultural exemption, where a CDL is not legally required. However, having a CDL may signify to the employer that the job applicant has knowledge or experience driving large or heavy trucks. So, if you don't have a CDL, you might compensate by showing in some other way that you have the skills or experience they are looking for in their new hire. Treat other preferences the same way, as something desired, but not mandatory.

Working RVer Tip

Employers hire you because they have reason to believe -- they think -- you will meet their needs. They keep you and ask you to come back again, because you did meet their needs.

Referrals Lead to Finder's Fees, Sometimes Quite Hefty Ones

Your referrals are important to business owners. There's a good chance they will pay you a finder's fee for making them. This may amount to a few freebies. It can also be a primary business strategy.

Our accountant sends a coupon with our annual tax worksheet, offering a $50 credit for each new customer we send him. A fishing guide we know gives us his business cards, we write our name on the back, and when someone books a fishing trip with him and returns the card, we receive a finder's fee.

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.

If you have questions, we're always happy to help. Simply submit them here....
