We're getting photos! Some of the businesses are starting to use the new feature available to them, adding pictures of their campgrounds or other place of business to their Help Wanted ads. It can really help to give you a better idea of where you'd be working.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Working RVer Tip

If you are familiar with the area where you are applying for work, be sure to mention it. Especially for campground jobs and other positions in the tourism industry, it is helpful if you already know what there is to see and do in an area, where the best places are to eat and shop, and where to find services.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Flea Marketing - Parking at My Booth

~~ Helen asks: I'm interested in selling at flea markets to bring in extra money. However, I don't know how to find flea markets that will allow a person to bring her trailer into the market. Is there some kind of listing of flea markets for this? I emailed one place here in town and first they said no, that I couldn't bring my trailer in, then I received a second email saying that yes, I could bring it in. I think they mean I could bring it into the parking lot, but I want to have it right there by my table. How do I find places that will let me do this?

~~ I answered in part: When you call or email a market, how you word your question may make a big difference in the reply you receive. I'd avoid using the word "trailer." They don't know if you mean a recreational vehicle travel trailer, or if you mean a utility or cargo trailer that you use for hauling your merchandise. If you say "RV" that will help eliminate some confusion.

Working RVer Tip

Do you have a connection to an area that will bring you back to it for more than one season? If so, be sure to put that on your resume or job application, or to let prospective employers know about it. If you do a good job this year, employers like knowing that you may be available next year or sometime in the future.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Home (RV) Based Business

~~ Meg asks: Does anyone know how the Summit Group network operates and is this perhaps a "work at home scam?

~~ I answered in part: Thank you for asking. The Summit Group founded by Steve Bretzke, who lives in the little town of Washington, Missouri, is not a scam. I have been part of that group since 2005. A good way to find out what it is all about and how it works is to go to my Summit Group website. There's a video there with Steve explaining the business.

Working RVer Tip

You'll have better luck finding a campground job if your rig is a match for the park. RV resorts that cater to fancy Class A motorhomes want (and may require) that you also have a newer motor coach. On the other hand, some parks are compressed and spaces are small. There, you'd do better to have a shorter, small RV. In fact, they may simply not have room for a 40-foot diesel pusher on the sites reserved for work campers.

Working RVer Tip

If applying for a campground or RV related position, let employers know what camping, RV, and travel related clubs and organizations you belong to. Those memberships can indicate that you are in tune to what is happening in the industry and that you have a general interest in RVers and RVing.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

How to Get Started Work Camping

~~ A prospective work camper asks: How do we start workcamping? How do we get our first workamper job?

~~ I answered in part: First of all, "workcamping" and "workamper job" -- what do you mean by those terms? If you want to trade a few hours a week cleaning toilets at a campground, you go about finding the job differently than if you are a registered nurse and want to work six-week stints in hospital emergency rooms across the country. I don't mean to be crass here, but a lot of RVers get into situations they don't want to be in because they assumed terms to mean one thing and the other party involved assumed them to mean something else.

Working RVer Tip

Why should an employer hire you and not the other guy? It's the age-old question that you've been told to prepare for at job interviews since you applied for your first part-time job. It still holds true today. Prepare your answer before you get to the job interview.

Welcome!

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
