Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Last week I mentioned that we were discussing whether to stay in Port Mansfield, Texas, or to start heading north. We decided to stay here in Port Mansfield. Some of you asked about the location of this little community. It is on the Gulf Coast, south of Corpus Christi. But, not as far south as when we were in Port Isabel and South Padre Island. It's been busier than usually this week, because of kids on spring break. Still, there are less popular fishing spots only a few blocks from the campground where Bob could fish and I could write, mostly undisturbed.

We have another great mix of jobs for RVers this week. I think there is something for everyone. Volunteer gigs. Work for site exchanges. Short-term campground positions for only three weeks. Year round positions that can be long-term.

Many of these positions pay an hourly wage or monthly salary, in addition to providing an RV site. Hurray and "Thank you!" to these employers!

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

If there's a place that you really want to work, be flexible. Working more (or fewer) hours than you'd prefer can help you get your foot in the door.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

KOA Registration Program

~~ An RVer asks: It looks like we will be working for a KOA this summer. Is there a way to learn the KOA registration program before we begin (so we won't feel so lost when we begin)?

~~ I answered in part: The KOA (Kampgrounds of America) registration software program is proprietary. I did find a website that tells quite a bit about it. It looks like they may have a tutorial there. While it may help you to feel more relaxed and self-confident your first few days on the job, I doubt that you are expected to know your way around the KampSite program.

The Campground Owner's Point of View

Bartering and Unemployment

~~ An Oregon campground owner writes: I have an RV park that I have used the barter system. The unemployment office is telling us we cannot legally barter with her and that we owe her the money for hours worked.

~~ I answered with the usual disclaimer that I can't give tax or legal advice. I also suggested some things that might make a difference and things she might want to discuss with her attorney.

Has anyone else run into this? Where you were told that bartering (working in exchange for an RV site) isn't legal?

Working RVer Tip

Want some writing experience? Write a story about your current employer or about the organization where you are volunteering. What are the best parts of working there? Why would your fellow RVers want to work there? Be sure to include the basics, such as the name of the business or organization, where it is located, and how to reach the contact person there. Send it to us, so that we can post it and let other RVers know about it.

Welcome!

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.

If you have questions, we're always happy to help. Simply submit them here....
