Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Bob and I are still in Port Isabel, Texas. It has certainly changed -- grown -- since we were here last. Not surprising, I guess, since that was back in '97. How fast the years go by!

I've heard from a couple of RVers who are thinking of changing their summer plans. Instead of doing cross country traveling, they are looking at working in one park all summer. The reason cited? The rising cost of gas. How many of you are thinking along that same line? Drop me an email to share your thoughts.

And, while you are at it, let me know what you think of the newsletter. I'm hearing from a few folks who think it should be shorter. Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RV Profile

Lindley Creek Bluegrass Band - Together on the Road, RVing and Performing

The Lindley Creek Bluegrass band's 30 foot Class C motorhome is backed up to the campground rec hall door. The Greer family is preparing to give RVers another evening of musical entertainment. Unlike many of the musical groups entertaining at Valley campgrounds, the Greers are not semi-tired senior citizens.

Working RVer Tip

For volunteer positions, such as with state parks, go visit the park in question. Seek out the superintendent or host coordinator. Let him know that you are interested in a camp host position.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Does Coleen Own a Campground?

~~ An anonymous visitor to our website writes: As editor of RVers and Workers On Wheels, you don't seem very sympathetic to the working camper, and most of your statements seem to be excuses for campgrounds' labor practices. Was wondering if you are a working camper or do you own the campground?

~~ My answer: I'm a working RVer. I don't own a campground.

We started Workers On Wheels to provide information to RVers about how to find work to support yourself while full-time RVing. That remains our mission today. One of the ways we do this is by telling you what employers need and want. RVers who live in a bubble thinking campground owners want one thing, when they really want another, are going to have a tough time finding and keeping jobs. Informed RVers are able to make comparisons, and to negotiate job wages and benefits.

~~ Read the discussion thread that led to this question -- and add your comments -- on the website.

Enterprising RVers Have a Variety of Businesses

Professional Organizers Help Others Take Control Of Their Time and Space Professional organizers help others get organized. Okay, but just what does that really mean? And, can you do it while full-time RVing? The answer to the first question is that they make money helping others get control of their time and their space. They can do this in a variety of ways, many that you can do from your RV.

Psychics Are in Demand and You May Already Have What it Takes to Be One Don't dismiss this as being for only the supernatural with obscure clairvoyant, metaphysical powers. What is it that clairvoyants really do? They look at past patterns and future opportunities, and make predictions. Can you guess right half the time?

Starting a Gift Basket Business There's more to a gift basket business than buying things and putting them in a container. No room in the RV for supplies? Take orders and let a professional service assemble and ship them.

Words of Wisdom from Workers

Restrooms and Rates

~ RVer Gypsy Jane writes: When I was a camp host, my main duties were cleaning restrooms and cleaning sites. Really, the restrooms were not a problem. Soap'em up, hose'm down, and done.

When I was growing up, the daughter of a real estate agent, I was taught one shouldn't spend more than a quarter of one's income on housing. Based on a 40 hour week, that would make 10 hours a week fair.

True, lots of people pay more than that for their housing - and look at the housing crisis that got us into!

Welcome!

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.

If you have questions, we're always happy to help. Simply submit them here....
