Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Bob and I continue our stay in Port Isabel, TX. Thursday evening, we had the opportunity to visit with three working RVers. They are musicians, entertainers, and recording artists who performed here at Park Center. They obviously enjoy what they do. They're a good example of RVers creating jobs that suit them.

We went to the flea market on Sunday. We didn't set up as vendors. Instead, we wandered through, looking at what the other vendors were selling. Antiques. Toys. Rocks. Clothing. Odds and ends. Baked goods. Produce. Jewelry. Flea market vending is another example of an income source that you, as an RVer, can take most anywhere.

This part of the Rio Grande Valley is flush with snowbirds. While some RVers add to the workforce, all RVers in the area create jobs. Local businesses, including an RV repair service, restaurants, and retail shops are advertising they need temporary help.

If you are spending this winter in a part of the country that is experiencing bitter cold, please be extra careful and stay warm.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Make sure how you write matches what you write. If your Work Wanted ad says you are detail orientated, and it contains misspelled words, those mistakes are emphasized.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Family Style Full Timing

~~ David asks: Family style full timing.... We've got kids. Um, let's see... home schooling, friends, sports scene, etc. We are a very close family of four. We're renters that can't seem to get ahead anymore. Why should we wait for the next "thing" to stop us? I'm pretty handy. I work as a machinist/maintenance mechanic at a snack food plant. What's your take?

~~ I answered in part: One thing to be aware of is that some RV parks do not allow children. (Don't feel bad -- some don't allow people my age, either.) If you are looking at working at campgrounds, that will limit your options some. Not enough to be a problem, though, unless you let it be one.

~~ Read the longer version of my answer -- and add your comments -- on the website.

Featured Website Section

Single RVers: Yes, There Are Jobs, Clubs, and Resources for You

Single RVers, this section is especially for you. Find answers to your questions about workamping solo, including how to overcome ads that want couples.

Single, and Dealing with "Couples Wanted" Work Wanted Ads The single RVer dilemma: Couples Wanted! Does it seem like every Help Wanted ad you read clearly specifies that couples – two people – are wanted? It isn’t as bad as it looks.

RV Groups for Singles Offer Networking Opportunity RV groups for singles offer special support, understanding, and camaraderie you don’t get from general RV clubs. You'll likely find them a network for both paid and volunteer job opportunities.

Single Workkamper Is it possible to be a single workkamper? I am contemplating workkamping as a single person and don't seem to see much for one person. Any hints or ideas?

Fair Pay Value I am a single, retired lady, who would like to find a work-camping exchange situation that is fair and reasonable for the employer and employee. I'm having difficulty understanding how the employer justifies asking for 20 hours a week for living space exchange.

Work Camping Single Men Are there positions out there for work camping single men? Is there a way to filter these listings for easier searching?

Are Only Couples Hired? Are only couples hired? I am a young (62) widow who has returned to full-time RVing after selling my house. Do employers hire individuals or only couples?

Working RVer Tip

"Autonomy, influence, and a sense of meaning are associated with lower stress and fewer work-related illnesses, regardless of hours worked." That quote is by Harvard professor and blogger Rosabeth Moss Kanter in response to a Gallup Healthways survey of 100,000 Americans on the overall well being of workers in various occupations. In other words, it may not be so much a matter of how many hours you work, but how much you like what you are doing and how appreciated you feel for doing it. This is something both workers and employers should remember.

The Campground Owner's Point of View

Seven Work Camper Suggestions from a Campground Owner to Camp Hosts

Campground owners want your work camping job to go smoothly and to be a good, happy experience for you. I received an email with seven suggestions. Here's one that I think is particularly important.

6. Ask what pet peeves the manager has so you understand what is expected. Our pet peeve is when workers gossip to our customers. Loyalty and acting in a professional manner is our number one requirement.

You can have fun while you work, enjoy what you do, and think that it is more a vacation than a job. But, at the same time, keep in mind that it is serious business to your employer.

Welcome!

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.

If you have questions, we're always happy to help. Simply submit them here....
