Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

I'm writing this as we drive down the Alcan. We left our home base of Soldotna, Alaska, Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 27. Friday morning, we entered Canada.

A week later… One thing I learned on this trip is that I get carsick if I work at the computer will Bob is driving. That, plus the fact that we found very limited Internet access while in Canada, adds up to no newsletter last weekend. We are now near Webster, ND, visiting Bob's sister Char and her family.

I took lots of handwritten notes along the way and will continue to do that throughout this trip. I'll be adding these to the RV Life and Travel website in the days and weeks to come. This trip is very different for us. If you'd like to follow along, please do.

Working RVer Tip

Agencies often have more jobs available than what they indicate in their Help Wanted ad. When they list a website, go there to look for other job openings. For example, when checking on a listing for a camp host, I found they also needed substitute teachers, substitute cooks and chefs, and account clerks.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Info On Mystery Shopping

~~ Lewis T. Pace, Jr. asks: Do you happen to have any info on legitimate mystery shopping contacts and opportunities?

~~ I answered in part: I've done some mystery shops. I thought it would be fun. Although the company I reported to was legitimate, I felt it was a waste of my time. Maybe that was because the products I bought to test had little value to me -- they weren't something I would otherwise have purchased.

Working RVer Tip

You, as a job applicant, are not the most important thing on the employer's mind. Be patient. Allow several days before hounding the employer to see why he hasn't responded to you.

Working RVer Tip

When submitting your resume or job application, take a few seconds to read the employer's instructions -- then follow them. It can save you much time in having to do it over correctly, if you are even given the chance to do so.

The Campground Owner's Point of View

Workamper Contact Information

~~ An RV park owner writes: How do we contact Joe and Jane Workamper? There is no contact information in their resume.

~~ I answered in part: I don't know how you are supposed to contact them. It really is too bad, because many of the resumes that don't include contact info are otherwise quite good.

We are working on a new system for posting Work Wanted / Situation Wanted ads and resumes. I'm hoping that will help.

Working RVer Tip

Accept that the person who pays the bills for the business is also the person who should get to make the final decisions for the business. That doesn't mean you need to agree. It doesn't mean you must continue working there. It simply means the business owner is not obligated to do things your way. Complaining about his decisions do not earn you brownie points.

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
