Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Bob and I are celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary this weekend. We've spent about half of that time as full-time RVers. Our RV travels have taken us north to Alaska, south to the southern tip of Texas, east to Maryland, and west to California. Thanks to our on-the-go Watkins business, we've traveled to Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel, Mexico, and to Belize. Sandwiched in their somewhere, was a trip to Hawaii. Our travels continue to be an important part of our life together. We're looking forward to some new adventures later this year.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Good Employees Share These Classic Traits

Good employees are hard to come by, regardless of the economy. Learn to be one, and there's a good likelihood that you'll never have trouble finding a job. What do employers want in their workers?

You can show that you are a solid contributor to the business -- one of the good employees. Do something to boost the workplace morale. Put extra effort into important projects. Improve productivity and keep track of improvements that you make. Document what you are doing; keep a log. And, ask for a personnel review to make sure you and your employer are seeing eye to eye on your job performance.

~~ This article lists 11 classic traits of good employees. What's more, it can help you identify if you fall into one of the three categories of difficult employees. Read the rest of this article on the website.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Selling Hobby Work

~~ Mr. K. asks: Do RV campgrounds care if a person sells his hobby work, such as liquor bottle lights, or woodwork items such as plant pots or such? Or would you think that would vary from place to place?

~~ I answered in part: Some parks have regular flea market days as part of their activity programs, maybe one Saturday a month.

One thing that works well is to sit outside and work on your hobby. Set at the picnic table making your lights. As people are walking close by, smile and say, "Hello," and start to chat a little.

Another take on this, is that instead of a campground with a flea market, find a flea market with a campground.

Working RVer Tip

People hiring for jobs have you do certain things for specific reasons that might not be readily apparent to you. For example, they may require that you fill out one of their applications, and not accept a typed resume. The reason? They want to see if your handwriting is legible.

Make an impression as a good campground guest. Even though campground owners meet hundreds of RVers each year, they may remember you when you apply for a job in the future.

Working RVer Tip

If you are considering working as a public speaker, consider Toastmasters. It's a great place to practice and get helpful guidance. Public speaking via adult education classes, giving workshops to community organizations, and presenting to various groups is an excellent way to enhance your other RV-based business. Toastmasters meet in many communities and welcome visitors.

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
