Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Welcome to all of our new subscribers. We are glad to have you on board and hope that you benefit from our website and newsletters.

We also want to thank all of you who have been mentioning us on Facebook and other networking sites, as well as posting a link to our website on your website, on forums, and in groups. Thank you!

Bob's been busy doing extra RV maintenance this past week. He gave our trailer a good bath, replaced vent caps, and re-sealed some roof seams. Just as with a sticks and bricks house, there is on-going upkeep when your home is a recreational vehicle.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Decorating Cakes

by Tag and Catherine Goulet, FabJob.com authors

Have a creative career as a cake decorator.

Jennifer James, author of the FabJob Guide to Become a Cake Decorator, says there are many benefits when you become a professional cake decorator and start a cake decorating business (also known as a cake design business).

"There's never been a better time to start up a cake decorating business," says Jennifer. "With the low-carb craze over with, there has been a return to the idea of eating for pleasure, thanks largely to the popular book French Women Don’t Get Fat. Single servings and the personal touch are in — cupcakes are very popular right now, as are gourmet mini-cakes." Cake decorators tap into the fact that people love to feel special, and are always looking for something new and unique.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Getting More Responses from Campground Owners

~~ An aspiring work camper asks: Were you able to get our Work Wanted ad up and posted so that we can start getting some replies to it? We really want to start camphosting as soon as possible.

~~ I answered in part: I received your ad and posted it on the website. It has actually been up for several days now.

I think the reason you haven't received any responses is because of the way the ad is written. When you write your ad, keep things positive -- say what you can do. Show the campground owner how you and your wife would help them. Tell the campground owner what education or experience or skills you and your wife have that would be assets to the campground.

It is the campground owner's job to hire people who can help their business succeed.

~~ Read the longer version of my answer -- and add your comments -- on the website.

Working RVer Tip

As an employee (or volunteer) you have an assigned role. Overstep the authority of that role and you'll upset people, including your supervisor, co-workers, and the customers.

Another Readers Shares Her Dream Job

~ from Janice L. Evans

I love to talk, and since writing is like talking, I love to write. I have always loved to write, not just to tell a story, but to solve a problem, or to share a thought. I just love words, all kinds of words, in any written form. I was one of those kids who read the cereal boxes.

Working RV Profile

Allegheny String Band

~ from Jackie Schillinger

From the start, all three younger kids have expressed a love of music and shown much talent. In 2008, they insisted their father play double bass. So, after purchasing a bass, they taught him how to play. Pete now plays with them at every show. I, Jackie, am the band manager.

When the kids are not playing music, they enjoy reading, farming, and visiting their older siblings. They also take pleasure in touring the country as a family.

And what do the three teenagers say about RVing?

The most mundane things in your job description may be the ones your supervisor sees the most if you leave them undone. If you want to be noticed as a better than average employee, don't let them go by the wayside.

Working RV Profile

Writing RV Adventure Books

~ from R.J. Swain

In the pioneer days of America, iron men and stout hearted women loaded their belongings into a Conestoga wagon, hitched up a team of oxen, mules or horses, and headed out. These early road rogues crossed the plains heading for the territory of their dreams, the "promised land."

My wife and trusted navigator uses an atlas, maps, and word of mouth directions or hand drawn instructions just like the pioneers to find our way.

As The 5th Wheel Turns book series (five planned) is the record of this adult pursuit of a boyhood dream to explore the modern American wilderness. We're never really sure where our adventures will take us but we are on an exciting and rewarding journey to somewhere out there.

Positive RVing Attitudes

A discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind. ~ Albert von Szent-Gyorgyi

A tremendous number of people in America work very hard at something that bores them. Even a rich man thinks he has to go down to the office every day. Not because he likes it, but because he can't think of anything else to do. ~ W. H. Auden

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
