Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

One look at the highway will certainly tell you that the summer RVing season is here in full force. From homemade campers constructed of plywood to fancy 40-foot coaches, they are all out there.

How many are working or heading to a job assignment? I'm guessing the number is more than most people think. There's an increasing number of RVers realizing they can easily work part-time from their RV. Even more are discovering the benefits of having an RV-based business.

One of the reasons RVers usually give for why they like the full-time RVing life is the sense of freedom it provides. How fitting that we rejoice in that freedom today, and remember those who fought for it for us.

Have a glorious and safe Memorial Day weekend.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Take Employment Advice from the Successful - Be Aware of Perspectives

Employment advice comes free and fast. Before you blindly follow what someone tells you, look at his success (or lack thereof). Look at his experience and accomplishments. Consider his perspective.

If you follow the lead of those who are where you want to be, you have a better chance of getting there than if you follow those who haven't yet found the way themselves.

Working RVer Tip

Take a break. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your job (or your job search) is to take a break from it. Let your head clear. Focus on something else for a bit.

An Online Affiliate Marketing Program Lets You Earn 24 Hours a Day

An online affiliate marketing program can make you thousands of dollars a month. You promote a product on your website and earn a commission for the sales you make. Some are pay per click programs.

Logically, one would think that higher the cost of the item being promoted, the higher the affiliate payout would be. But, that is not always the case. Some companies pay a large amount on an initial sale, knowing the customer is likely to make repeat purchases.

A webmaster affiliate program can -- and should -- work for you 24 hours a day, while you travel and play. But, how do you get it to do that?

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Short Term Camp Hosting

~~ Debi asks: My husband and I want camp host type jobs for short periods of time as we travel the country. Is there work like that? If so, how long would you need to commit?

~~ I answered in part: You can find camp hosting positions that are only a week or two. If you are willing to stay at least a month, that will give you more options.

Look for positions at places that hire or use student volunteers.

Short term camp hosting positions are also prevalent around the holidays. To compound the situation, that is also when the regular hosts may want time off.

Throw in weeks when there are state or county fairs, community celebrations, and special events. Now, consider that the full-season hosts want time off to go spring weddings or that they need to have some medical work done.

Minimize State Income Tax Issues by Keeping a Tax Diary Calendar Log Book

by Martin M. Shenkman, CPA, MBA, JD

The state income tax maze is risky. State tax audits can blind side you. What does this new aggressive environment mean for the working RV’er? Keep a calendar log of what you do, when, and where.

Fill in the log daily or weekly. Try to avoid having to recreate information after the fact. Save receipts from RV parks or other places to prove where you were.

If you’re boondocking, saving receipts from the nearby store where you pick up staples may be the best independent proof of where you were.

Tax authorities always find current (they call them “contemporaneous”) records more persuasive.

The instructions in a Help Wanted ad may be there as part of the interview and screening process. They can let employers know if respondents follow directions, are neat and organized, are punctual, attentive to details, etc.

Welcome!

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
