Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Do you have a question about working while RVing? Ask us.

We've acquired a lot of experience over the years. We've worked as paid employees. We've run a business from our RV. And, we've volunteered. We can give you the perspective from someone who has actually been out there, living the dream.

This newsletter started as a way for us to share what we know about earning a living while full-time RVing. That's a service we still strive to provide.

Send your questions via the form on the website.

On that page, you'll also see a list of questions that others have asked. Besides reading our replies to them, you are welcome to share your comments.

Turn your radio on and listen. As you move toward your destination, tune in a local radio station. Businesses who are hiring, temporary staffing agencies, and state employment services air announcements of job openings.

Referrals Lead to Finder's Fees, Sometimes Quite Hefty Ones

Your referrals are important to business owners. There's a good chance they will pay you a finder's fee for making them. This may amount to a few freebies. It can also be a primary business strategy.

You naturally tell people about products and services you like and use. With some forethought and planning, you could be getting a referrer or finder's fee.

There are several ways to track your results.

If you scan or copy work related tax documents or other papers with confidential information on them, make sure you destroy your scanner/copier before you get rid of it. Otherwise, if it ends up in the wrong hands, they may be able to retrieve your data from the machine.

Working RVer Tip

Go to church. Churches welcome visitors. Members often go out of their way to speak to newcomers. A natural topic of conversation is your vocation and lifestyle. Here’s your chance to let a group of locals know that you are in the area, that you are looking for work, and what work you can do.

I’m not suggesting you go to church for the sole purpose of finding a job. However, our experience proves that employment offers are made during the fellowship time before and after the service.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Swap Meet and Festival Work

~~ A site visitor asks: I heard of a company that puts up fireworks displays and hires people to man them and sell for 10 days or so near the 4th of July. They supply the booth, banners, inventory, etc. They pay for the term of stay, (a day or two, to a week or more) and by the amount of items sold.

There must be other manufacturers, vendors, companies who are looking for people to stay with their booth and sell during the festival, swap meet, or what ever?

~~ I answered in part: One company that hires people to tend fireworks stands is TNT Fireworks.

Another suggestion is to contact the owner or the organization that is sponsoring the market or festival. They may be able to tell you if they have vendors with large set-ups who are looking for help. They may also have other job leads for you.

Words of Wisdom from Workers

Hair Cuts and Manicures

~~ Morgen writes: I look forward to your e-zine every issue! I don't currently have a rig, and I'm doing the urban-farmer thing right now. However, I've lived the life and really hope to go back to it someday.

I'd like to share that another way to support yourself is cutting hair or doing nails. Many RVers don't think about that. If you have a license in the state where you are, it's better, of course, but some ladies are used to getting these services on a regular basis, and when they are in the RV, they miss them. It can be quite lucrative - or a nice sideline. And, men need haircuts regardless of where they are!

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
