Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Happy Easter!

Lots of state parks are still looking for volunteers for this coming summer. You can usually find contact info for the volunteer coordinator on the website for the particular state's park system. You may have better luck going directly to the ranger or staff of a specific park, rather than going through the official state-wide coordinator.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Jobs at Amazon

Amazon (as in Amazon.com, the books plus what all else site) is looking for RVers to work during the 2010 holiday season. The jobs are in their warehouses stowing, receiving, and shipping. They start in October and go through December.

Last year, we had postings from a staffing agency that filled the positions for the Coffeeville, Kansas, warehouse. However, this year, Amazon is filling the positions themselves. Besides the Kansas location, they are looking for RVers to work in the Fernley, Nevada, and Campbellsville, Kentucky warehouses, also.

Pay starts at $10.50 an hour and can be higher. They also pay for your campground site.

Working RVer Tip

When working at a campground, at a tourist attraction, or at a service or retail business in a tourist town, it is helpful to learn about the community. You should be able to get information from the local Chamber of Commerce and the Visitor's Center.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Bus Transportation Driver

~~ Edward asks: Are there bus driving positions for retired tour bus drivers in RV areas?

~~ I answered in part: Campgrounds with shuttle busses that take their RVing customers to local tourist attractions and then pick them up later in the day. An example is Santa Clause RV Park in North Pole, AK.

RV parks owned by tourist attractions that hire drivers to make regular trips between the two. Think Disney.

Parks, such as Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, use tour drivers.

Working RVer Tip

If you work for a tourist related business, you may be able to get free passes to tourist attractions in the areas, as well as discount coupons for local restaurants and other services. They sometimes provide these as a way to help you get acquainted with the area -- and in hopes that you will recommend their business to others.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Writing for Pay

~~ Mary asks: I'm interested in writing for a magazine or newsletter to supplement our income while traveling. I need some suggestions on where to start looking for such a paying publication.

~~ I answered in part: Writer's Market -- a book -- has been the trusted source of freelance writers for decades. It is not limited to magazines. It also includes greeting card companies, newspapers, production companies, theaters, etc.

It also has a how-to section to help you sell what you write. There you'll find help for writing query letters, pay rate charts showing how much professional freelancers charge, instructional articles, interviews, and tips for marketing your articles.

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
