Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

The hardest part of being a working RVer is taking time to work. Finding work is easy enough, whether you seek employment or have an RV based business. Pulling yourself away from the golf, fishing, hiking, or whatever else catches your attention on the road isn't so easy.

We spent much of this week in Homer, AK. With a waterfront RV site and fish biting, Bob and I certainly didn't work as much as we could have.

On the other hand, because of the scenic beauty, the stress-free environment, and the cool temperatures, the time we did spend working was productive. And, it was most enjoyable.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Making and Selling Jewelry

~~ An RVer asks: We make jewelry and will be selling at farmers markets and flea markets. We hope to finance the trip this way. Has anyone else done this?

~~ I answered in part: Yes. You'll find some markets are better suited to jewelry sales than others.

At one market where we set up with jewelry, we failed miserably. The people there were looking for low dollar items. We had turquoise and sterling silver jewelry, handmade by Native American craftsman in New Mexico. People oohed and aahed about it, but very few bought. If we had had 99 cent a pair earrings, we would have done well.

Not long after, we worked a flea market in a summer resort tourist area. Same jewelry, completely different response.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Prescription and Medical Issues

~~ Diane asks: My husband and I both take several prescriptions for diabetes and COPD. How do you get your prescriptions refilled while on the road? Do you tell the employer about your health issues? Just how much do you disclose?

~~ I answered in part: One popular option for filling reoccurring prescriptions is to use a pharmacy that has stores across the country (or at least within the regions you plan to travel). If you have your prescription filled at one Wal-Mart, it is in their computer system, and should be easy enough to refill at another Wal-Mart. (I use Wal-Mart as an example, not as a specific recommendation.)

Another option for refilling prescriptions is to use a mail order pharmacy.

Tell your prospective employer about health issues or medical conditions that affect your ability to do the job.

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.
