Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

Alaska, the land of the midnight sun. We went to the car races last night. Bob works pit crew for one of the drivers. A rain shower brought an unscheduled intermission. The rain also slicked up the track, so while great for watching, the spin-outs and restarts delayed things further. It was close to mid-night when we called it a day -- and it was still light outside.

I received a lot of requests for the "Have the Life You Deserve" booklet. I've sent out some and should have the others in the mail this week. The booklet shows how you can have more money, more free time, and more security. If you'd like a copy, email me your name and postal mailing address. I'll be glad to send you one.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Working RVer Tip

Catch the Good Luck of Successful People

Develop a network of positive, successful people. Their "good luck" will rub off on you. Actually, it's their positive attitude and appropriate actions, but the point's the same. Their good outlook and good habits set good examples for you to follow.

Your Working While RVing Questions Answered

Maintenance Worker Wages

~~ Nate asks: What would be the average hourly wage for a person who has 35 years of residential and commercial maintenance experience, mainly refrigeration and electrical background?

~~ I answered in part: Asking for average wages for maintenance workers on the road is like asking how much it costs to go out for dinner. Depends if you go to the fast food restaurant and pick from the value menu or if you go for elegant fine dining with wine and a gourmet meal.

Do you plan to work with a contractor who is required to pay Davis-Bacon wages? Do you plan to work union jobs? Do you plan to work for a temp staffing service? Do you plan to work at a campground in exchange for a campsite? All those are realistic options for working RVers. You know from your experience that there's a vast range in the pay scale of those choices.

Working RVer Tip

Have at least two income streams. This adds both variety and security to your life. Examples: A camp host who does computer repair. A property caretaker who makes jewelry to sell at flea markets. A website designer who also does square dance calling.

New Favorite Work Camper Campground Nominee

Minneapolis SW KOA

The Minneapolis SW KOA campground is great and we have tons of fun. Yes, we work hard during the week and on the big holidays. There's something going on almost every weekend -- movie night, candy bar bingo, scavenger hunt, and ice cream social. Keeps us busy, but we love it.

The owners are wonderful and provide a great work environment, but we also have our time for workamper socializing. When we finally settle down we all meet at the workamper table and enjoy our time together.

Working RVer Tip

Nix the Naysayers

Don't believe the naysayers who tell you that you can't find a job. I am still regularly hearing from people who are finding jobs they like and that meet their financial requirements.

Wise Words from Workers

Portfolio Career

I heard from Chris King of Creative Keys this week that she has what she calls a "Portfolio Career." She describes it as a life filled with a variety of different careers. Among the careers in her portfolio are mathematician, teaching group fitness classes, website design, professional storytelling, speaking, waitress, salesperson, modeling, being a TV announcer, and desktop publishing. She writes that her life is, "loaded with fun, passion, joy, and love." Undoubtedly, wherever she goes, Chris can find work or make herself a job.

We started this site after corresponding with thousands of RVers, sharing what we’ve learned from our personal experience as full-time RVers, as well as what we've gleaned from employers and managers who hire and work with work campers and other RV workers.

We do hope we've been instrumental in helping you find the right work situation for your RV lifestyle.

We believe there are many advantages to having an RV home based business that we can take on the road with us. We've found a Watkins Summit Group business works for us.

We are also thankful for SBI!, the "do-all-the-techy-stuff-for-you" e-business building platform that made creating this RV resource site possible.

If you have questions, we're always happy to help. Simply submit them here....
